Installation

After you have downloaded Silk to your computer, follow these steps to install your new theme.

  1. Double-click silk.zip to extract the file.
  2. Place the .rwtheme file into the "~/Library/Application Support/RapidWeaver/" directory.
  3. Restart RapidWeaver.

Custom Page Banners

You may specify up to 20 custom page banners with your Silk website. Your custom banner width must be 40px less than your selected layout width and as tall as your selected banner height Theme Variation — by default, 200px. For example, if your current layout width is 740px, your custom banner must be 700px wide and 200px tall. Use the following instructions to create and use a custom banner image in your Silk website.

  1. Create a banner image that is the appropriate width and height in an image editing program.
  2. Save your image as a JPEG image, with a ".jpg" extension, into the directory silk.rwtheme/Contents/images/editable_images/.
  3. Right-click "silk.rwtheme" and choose "Show Package Contents" to view the contents of the Silk theme.
  4. Save your image as "image#.jpg", where "#" is 1, 2, 3, ... or 20. For example, you might save an image called "image15.jpg".
  5. Restart RapidWeaver, and select the appropriate banner image in the Theme Variation panel.

Important Notes

Many of my customers have asked about the "sidebar divider" in Silk 4.1. The sidebar divider is a horizontal line that divides the sidebar menu from any sidebar content shown below the sidebar menu. The sidebar divider will NOT be shown if there is no sidebar menu on the given page. To display a sidebar divider on a RapidWeaver page using Silk 4.1, ensure you have a sidebar menu on the given page and that you have chosen to show the sidebar divider in the Theme Variations panel.

Custom Tabs

Due to technical difficulty, menu tab color pickers were not implemented into Silk. However, I do provide Photoshop PSD templates to create new tabs. These templates are located in the Extras folder that came with your product download. To create new tabs:

PART 1
  1. Open "tab.psd" in Photoshop, or a compatible image editor.
  2. In the Layers palette, double-click the Layer Thumbnail for layer "Tab".
  3. Select a new color, and click "Ok".
  4. Select "File -> Save for Web & Devices".
  5. Export as a transparent PNG-24 image with transparency.
  6. Save the exported image as "tab.png".
  7. Select "File -> Save for Web & Devices" again.
  8. Export as a transparent GIF with 256 colors.
  9. Save the exported image as "tab.gif".
PART 2
  1. Open "tab_end.psd" in Photoshop, or a compatible image editor.
  2. In the Layers palette, double-click the Layer Thumbnail for layer "Tab".
  3. Select a new color, and click "Ok".
  4. Select "File -> Save for Web & Devices".
  5. Export as a transparent PNG-24 image with transparency.
  6. Save the exported image as "tab-end.png".
  7. Select "File -> Save for Web & Devices" again.
  8. Export as a transparent GIF with 256 colors.
  9. Save the exported image as "tab-end.gif".
PART 3
  1. Locate your exported files: tab.png, tab-end.png, tab.gif, and tab-end.gif.
  2. Right-click on silk.rwtheme and choose "Show Package Contents".
  3. Copy your new tab.png, tab-end.png, tab.gif, and tab-end.gif into silk.rwtheme, into the directory "silk.rwtheme/Contents/images/" to replace the existing tab images.
